Supervising Deputy Federal Public Defender Erin Murphy

Governor Gavin Newsom today announced the appointment of Erin Murphy, Supervising Deputy Federal Public Defender with the Federal Public Defender, Central District of California, as Los Angeles County Superior Court judge.

Erin Murphy, of Ventura County, has been appointed to serve as a Judge in the Los Angeles County Superior Court. Murphy has served as Supervising Trial Attorney at the Office of the Federal Public Defender since 2024, and as a Trial Attorney since 2018. Murphy has worked as an Adjunct Professor at Loyola Law School since 2022. She worked as a Law Clerk in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit from 2017 to 2018. Murphy held various roles at Lightfoot Steingard & Sadowsky including as an Associate from 2012 to 2017 and as a Law Clerk from 2011 to 2012. Murphy received a Juris Doctor degree from Loyola Law School. She fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Robert C. Vanderet. Murphy is a Democrat.
