The Federal Public Defender’s Office for the Central District of California is accepting applications for a part-time software trainer position. The software trainer will be stationed in the Los Angeles main office, but will also work in the Riverside and Santa Ana branches. The Federal Public Defender’s Office is committed to the client-centered pursuit of justice by advocating for the constitutional rights and inherent dignity of indigent individuals who are accused or convicted of crimes.
Job Duties: The software trainer will coordinate with the office technology, litigation support, and managerial teams to develop office-wide training on various information technology tools and software. Core job duties include:
- Developing and conducting end user training for programs used by our office, such as Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat, database programs, etc..
- Preparing training presentations using the latest software and presentation tools.
- Designing, developing, evaluating, and revising training curriculum, materials, guides, and manuals.
- Identifying technology training needs through surveys, interviews, and meetings with management and employees.
- Making recommendations to management on relevant technology training for specific positions in the office.
- Communicating IT training opportunities to all employees.
Requirements: All applicants must have an undergraduate degree in computer science, or a related field, and five (5) or more years of experience providing information technology training. Experience with curriculum development, platform presentation, and knowledge of needs assessment techniques and training resources are required. Preference will be given to candidates with certifications in Office 365 applications and Adobe Acrobat.
Selection Criteria: Candidates must have an interest in advancing the Federal Public Defender’s mission of providing high quality criminal defense to indigent individuals; must keep up with emerging IT trends; have strong oral and written communication skills; be able to work independently, be flexible, and take initiative; work well in teams; ability to listen and coach effectively; and able to plan, organize, and manage logistics. A background investigation is required as a condition of employment. Salary/Benefits: This is a part-time, at-will position. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience and is subject to direct deposit.
